چکیده

We consider the lifetimes of metastable states in bistable evolutionary games (coordination games), and examine how they are affected by spatial structure. A semiclassical approximation based on a path integral method is applied to stochastic evolutionary game dynamics with and without spatial structure, and the lifetimes of the metastable states are evaluated. It is shown that the population dependence of the lifetimes is qualitatively different in these two models. Our result indicates that spatial structure can accelerate the transitions between metastable states. PACS numbers: 05.40.-a, 87.23.Kg

Statistical mechanics of spatial evolutionary games

We discuss the long-run behavior of stochastic dynamics of many interacting players in spatial evolutionary games. In particular, we investigate the effect of the number of players and the noise level on the stochastic stability of Nash equilibria. We discuss similarities and differences between systems of interacting players maximizing their individual payoffs and particles minimizing their in...

The Lobbying, Bribery, and Compliance: An Evolutionary Model of Social Factors

Abstract Connecting to rule-makers in order to set favorable rules (lobbying) or paying government executives to bend the current rule (bribing) are the two main strategies for influencing government. This study in an evolutionary game model explain why bribing may become widespread while other states like compliance and cooperative lobbying are Pareto superior. The theoretical model is used ...

Effect of rainfall interannual variability on the stability and resilience of dryland plant ecosystems

[1] Positive feedbacks between vegetation and soil moisture may induce, in arid ecosystems, the emergence of two alternative stable states, corresponding to bare and completely vegetated soil. A new analytical model is developed to investigate this behavior and to study the effects of interannual rainfall variability on the dynamics of bistable ecosystems. When dichotomic Markov noise is used t...

Evolutionary game theory and population dynamics

We begin these lecture notes by a crash course in game theory. In particular, we introduce a fundamental notion of a Nash equilibrium. To address the problem of the equilibrium selection in games with multiple equilibria, we review basic properties of the deterministic replicator dynamics and stochastic dynamics of finite populations. We show the almost global asymptotic stability of an efficie...

Multigame effect in finite populations induces strategy linkage between two games.

Evolutionary game dynamics with two 2-strategy games in a finite population has been investigated in this study. Traditionally, frequency-dependent evolutionary dynamics are modeled by deterministic replicator dynamics under the assumption that the population size is infinite. However, in reality, population sizes are finite. Recently, stochastic processes in finite populations have been introd...
